After two decades of rarity, COR Elbeuf basketball will return to the regional level next season. Odeh owes a lot to the work that coach Bruno Duquen has accomplished since 2017.
Even if he still has a game to play, it’s been a long time since COR Elbeuf (Club omnisport de la region elbeuvienne) basketball folded the pre-regional championship. With 21 successes in 21 matches, the Elbeuviens leave not the slightest bit behind their opponents, so they will develop, during the 2022-2023 financial year, in Regional 3. Nothing extraordinary you’ll tell us about, except that it took twenty years to get back to that level. Thus, it is a real achievement that they have achieved, a fortiori, because if we add to these 21 victories, those obtained during my “two covid years”, they have won 40 times in a row! Great engineer for this success?
Bruno Duquenne (63), who the CORE leaders went for in 2017 when he was taking a breather after many years on the Essarts bench. “When they asked me, I stopped for a year and started biting my nailshe explains. And then, I got to know a lot of people here, especially Damien Matthews (Captain, position 2/3/4) and Clement Sanson (last 3/4). Furthermore, I knew that if I took charge of a team, the Esarts players I worked with would come along. » Therefore, the technician agreed to the proposal. “The club was in DM2, it was working, but nothing moreHe says. There was a possibility, I simply paraphrased two or three things so that we could claim we’re up. »
Dargod: “Bruno has such precision that sometimes he lacks that level”
Not only. no. Duquenne also brought the video, the statistics but also and above all the method of operation. “It is a system that can be said to be participatoryexplains the person who takes care of his son (Hugo) with ALM Évreux. If there are things you must decide, I don’t do them alone. I try to involve the players in almost all decisions. We discuss, everyone gives their opinion, both about the items that can join us and about the training. For example, I am able to give up if I realize that the players on the field are more clear in their decision making than I can. It seems to please the players, they are active in the project. »
Benjamin Dargod (37, died privately via Gravenchon, N2) confirms. “He is very human, loves peopleElbeuvien emphasizes the interior. He regularly gives interviews to players. He knows how to listen, but makes himself heard when necessary. Moreover, he is an emotional person. He watches a lot of matches, knows basketball well and is organized. Bruno has that toughness that he sometimes lacks at this level. I love the way he does it. » A way that could make the difference in R3 next season…
Boudou: “The Elbeuvian conglomerate deserves to have a team sport at the national level”
Julien Bodo (34), president of COR Elbeuf Basketball Club since 2020, would like to make his club the leading club in the Elbeuvienne region when it comes to team sports.
CORE will return to the regional level during the 2022-2023 fiscal year after flying over its championship this season. Did you expect it?
“More or less (laughs). At our level, you never know what is happening in other clubs, but given the players we have, it is not surprising. We saw from the first meetings that she should do it. It has now been two and a half seasons (40 games) We did not lose her.”
What goal(s) is your club trying to achieve now?
“I think with the current team we have the potential to evolve in R2. Overall, we have a great hall (La Cerisaie, opened in 2017), 350 licensees, and three employees, including Thierry Cormier (Gravenchon coach at N3F) who looks after With our youth. In five years we want to be regional in all categories and more if you want in ten years. The Elbeuvienne conglomerate deserves to have a team sport at the national level. It’s kind of our idea.”
The men’s section is working fine but what about the women’s section?
“Our goal is to recognize coaching, especially for the girls. Our U11s lost their first game in 4 years on Saturday 30th April 2022 in the divisional semi-finals. We have U13 and U15 at Regional Elite. We made the decision not to participate in U18, because we were too short. Among the elderly. There, they will be maintained and we aim to take them up to the regional level from next season.”
