Luka Doncic and Dorian Finney Smith lead the Mavericks to a tie!

Everything has to be redone for Suns. After dominating the series by winning their first two games, they just suffered another defeat in Texas, synonymous with a tie. But also clearly dynamic in favor of Jason Kidd and his band.

By deciding to scale back Dwight Powell’s minutes, which was hampered by errors, Jason Kidd was quick to explain that the Mavs were going to play “little ball” in the segment, with five players behind the arc to attack. during part of the match.

This strategy quickly paid off as the Mavs, who was still lethal by Luka Doncic and a fiery return from Davis Bertans, scored 37 points to the Suns defense in the first quarter (37-25). While the Mavs did massive damage from a distance, the visitors did the same, but in a hack. Devin Booker scored 19 points in the first attacking period that Dallas dominated (68-56).

The visitors, despite Chris Paul’s foul apprehensions, returned from the locker room with better intentions, particularly defensively. Shortly after missing seven shots in a row, MAF resumed his run forward after a somewhat improbable turn from Galen Bronson at the end of possession (70-63). Then Luka Doncic repeatedly abused his size advantage over Cameron Payne while Frank Ntelikina returned a shot, still from 3-shots, to breathe new life into Dallas (87-78) before the start of the last period.

Despite Devin Booker’s build, at the heart of a game that saw a drop in pace in the second half, the Suns couldn’t capture more, due to the lack of defensive ‘stops’.

Dorian Finney-Smith took advantage of defensive oversight in their transition game to send out two crucial missiles six minutes from the end (97-83). Cameron Johnson and Jay Crowder tried to bring back Phoenix, and the Maeve family always found a way to fight back. Like the two award-winning new picks by Reggie Bullock and Jalen Bronson, Luka Doncic continues to serve them.

The latter signed a superb ‘spin’ in front of Cam Johnson to win the post and Dallas could withstand the final minutes of fairly quiet play.

What to remember

Chris Paul’s nightmare with his mistakes. When Monty Williams ejected his captain about forty seconds into the first half, ‘CP3’ already had three personal fouls on the clock. He had a bad idea to rebound against Luka Doncic in the last act before the break. The fourth foul, was unheard of in the first half, but Monty Williams confirmed the veteran was smart enough to play with him. However, he got his fifth title fairly quickly in the third quarter, a period he didn’t play very often. Ditto in the following period since he left his hand behind in front of Galen Bronson. With nine minutes left in the match, the Suns had to dispense with their master to play, which had already “goed wrong” without challenging the refereeing decisions.

Texas sinks to 3 shots in the first half. Luka Doncic attracted a lot of attention to him, and the Mavs bowlers had no choice but to wait for their turn, and a good Slovenian pass, into the corners. That’s what Dorian Finney Smith and Davis Bertans, authors of the first fiery comeback, did amazingly in the first period. Texans have already scored 68 points in these 24 minutes with an unreal convergence of 14/24 behind the arc. The success was less then because they only signed 2/11 from afar in the following quarter. However, they scored 20 award-winning baskets, twice as many as their opponents.

tops/swings

Luka Doncic. He obviously misused the 3-point shot (1/10!), causing his overall success rate to drop. For the rest, there’s not much to throw in the match of the Slovenian who was still able to easily punish near the circuit and found bowlers thanks to his good readings in the pinning, with or without a man. He also spent a large part of his evening on the floor, due to which he was exposed to communication.

Dorian Finney Smith. The player most honored was Luka Doncic. The powerful winger scored his best match since the start of this qualifier. He scored all his points behind the arc and planted two very important back-to-back baskets that took home prizes with six minutes remaining.

Devin Booker. A strong match for the Suns back who had to take more control of his team’s attack, in the absence of Chris Paul. He was very aggressive on the circuit and got a couple of free throws.

Cameron Payne. The opposite feeling compared to Devin Booker with the alternate point guard. Nevertheless, he had a great opportunity to show himself with the usual stand on the bench. He not only really took advantage of it but also struggled in defense against the massive Luka Doncic. Therefore, Monty Williams preferred to dispense with the playmaker in the last period.
