FIBA withdraws Russian and Belarusian teams from upcoming international competitions

In view of the situation in Ukraine, which has not improved, the Executive Committee of the International Basketball Federation made frank decisions regarding the future of the Russian and Belarusian teams. The latter was banned from future international competitions, either in 3×3 or 5×5.

FIBA statement:

After the decision made on March 1, 2022, and confirmed by the Central Council on March 25, 2022, not to allow Russian teams and officials to participate in FIBA ​​basketball and basketball 3×3 competitions, the FIBA ​​Executive Committee today confirmed the following decisions regarding the Russian Basketball Federation (FRB) and the Belarusian Basketball Association (FBB) for the FIBA ​​basketball competitions to be held over the next few months.

The Executive Committee of the International Basketball Federation has taken the following decisions:

No official basketball competitions will be held in Russia or Belarus until further notice.

2023 Basketball World Cup Qualifiers.
Russia was eliminated from Group H and Belarus was dropped from Group B in the FIBA ​​2023 Basketball World Cup European Qualifiers, with no substitute team named. All results of the two teams are void and therefore the remaining teams in the group qualify for the second qualifying round with four matches. In order for the teams in these two groups to rank equally (H and G; A and B), matches in the first round against teams seeded in Group G and Group A will not be taken into account when seeding in Groups L and B. i.

FIFA U-17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022
Russia withdrew from the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s Basketball World Cup, which will be held in Hungary from July 9-17.
