Architectural Hajj

Do you know ? Les Arcs is the place of “pilgrimage” for architecture lovers! Especially for fans of the “Le Corbusier” trend. And, more precisely, fans of Charlotte Perriand, a close collaborator of the famous architect.

Skier, climber and mountaineer, Charlotte Perriand imagined the ideal ski resort in the 1930s: a project that “would climb up the slope to form a whole with every floor looking out over the horizon.”

At Les Arcs she will have the opportunity to embody her research and express the full extent of her wise talent.

The buildings are arranged perpendicular to the slope to improve the views. The terraces are raised, staggered from each other for privacy. Interior design is the focus on creativity. Everything was thought out according to the use: the open kitchen, the bench along the window, or the white plaster for better acoustic comfort. The apartments have no other face than the immensity of the mountains.

Throughout the year, the Les Arcs Tourist Office organizes architectural visits to Arc 1600 and Arc 1800, two of the estate’s sites, to discover Charlotte Perriand’s work on foot or on sleds and gauge the talent of this 20th-century key figure.

We tested the 4-star Mercure hotel from Arc 1800

Renovated in December 2019, just before the virus crisis, the Mercure Arc 1800 offers large rooms. We had a breathtaking view of the mountains and Bourg St Maurice below. We experienced one of the most impressive storms of our lives there…

This modern and cozy hotel has an indoor pool with sauna, hammam and fitness room, but above all an outdoor bubble bath that offers stunning panoramic views of the Pierra Menta and the Beaufortain mountain range.

We especially appreciate the wonderful restaurant, which serves generous, typical and somewhat healthy dishes.
