XMG is a brand of Schenker Technologies GmbH, founded by Robert Schenker in 2002. The parent company initially operated as an eBay store and opened its own independent retail solution in 2004. The XMG brand, short for “Extreme Multimedia & Gaming”, was established in 2009, with the 2013 Schenker brand focusing instead on mobile workstations and consumer use. XMG laptops have quickly gained favor with the late PC community by offering many features to enthusiasts, including a highly customizable range of different platforms, all assembled in Germany where quality checks are also carried out, considering The right to repair, upgrade devices easily and exchange, and generally offers good value for money in terms of hardware, aftermarket software, and firmware support. The laptop platforms are sourced from companies like Clévo and TongFang, so you’ll also see different types of the same laptops sold under other brands. This keeps competition high and brands like XMG must continue to deliver every time.
When XMG sent out a press release in early January, about the announcement of the NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti and 3080 Ti mobile GPUs, it wasn’t particularly noteworthy on its own. After all, the first XMG NEO 15 was updated as recently as 2021, so was it definitely just a specs update? Then I read the email and realized that an external water cooling system was debuting, which definitely piqued my interest. A brief presentation of the Zoom product began online, after which I was quickly convinced that I just had to see how XMG OASIS would perform in practice. External water cooler enclosures for laptops is nothing new as Asus has made a strong impression but without commercial success with a heavy, bulky and expensive external enclosure for an equally massive laptop. It’s been a few years since then and PCs are getting hungry and hot in power, is XMG OASIS a new solution or another gimmick? Deciding to wait until retail models were ready to test exactly what customers received, this review of the XMG NEO 15 (E22) laptop and the XMG OASIS External Cooling System lasted for nearly 100 hours.
