On the smartphone as on the computer, it is very easy to save TikTok videos for keeping.
TikTok is an endless pit full of amazing, inspiring and entertaining videos. The ones you love can join your favourites: just tap the heart-shaped icon next to it. But, if you want to keep one off the platform, you have the possibility to save it.
In this case, you have two solutions: You can download the video from the mobile application, either on Android or iOS, so as to be able to get it on the smartphone. Otherwise, you can recover it on the computer, by connecting to the service website. You will first need the video link to find it on the platform.
Record a TikTok video on your smartphone
The first method, which will certainly be the most in demand, because it is first with a smartphone that Internet users access TikTok, is to use a parameter from the application.
Recording a video is like a child’s play. Just show the option in the list.
- Open TikTok on your smartphone;
- Go to the video you want;
- Click on the icon with an arrow pointing to the right:
- Choose the “Video Recording” option from the window on the screen;
- That’s it !
As you save, you’ll see a fill bar at the bottom of the screen, with a progression that shows you how far the video has fetched. Once the download is complete, a blue message appears to confirm that the process is finished. The video clip(s) can then be found in your smartphone’s folders.
The location of the folder may vary depending on whether you are using Android or iOS, but also depending on the version of the operating system. In the case of Android 12, it is possible to find it, for example, through the Files application (Files) or through Google Photos. Videos are saved in the “Camera” category of the “Library” tab.
Note that sometimes some videos do not provide the option to record a video. This is a sign that the person who uploaded the video does not want to allow this option – when submitting a new creation, TikTok asks which uses you want to accept or decline (this includes comments, duets, groups, etc.).
Save TikTok video to your computer
In the event that you are not able to download TikTok video from your smartphone, because the original option is disabled, a good alternative is to browse on your computer. The trick to get around this obstacle depends on the capabilities of your web browser (Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Safari, etc.), to replace those missing from TikTok.
It’s also easy to record a video: it can be done with almost one click.
- Go to the TikTok website;
- Put yourself on the video you want (you may need to note the link you spotted on the smartphone to open it on the browser);
- Right-click on the video with the mouse;
- Find the line “Save video as” in the context menu (this works with Firefox, Edge and Chrome);
- Choose where you want to save the video on your computer;
- That’s it !
This approach compensates for the case where the TikTok option is absent. It’s up to you, then, to send the video back to you to get it on your smartphone, by attaching it to an email you send to yourself, using a transfer service or by connecting your smartphone to your computer (using a tool like AirDroid, via Bluetooth or cable, etc.).
Note that this works against the person who chose a restrictive setting to prevent video recording – but you can appreciate that you’re turning on an exception for private transcription for work, which allows making a completely private copy of the video, as long as it’s not out of the family. So be careful not to rebroadcast it anywhere.
