Surely you’ve heard of macOS Monterey, the new operating system that replaces macOS Big Sur on Apple computers. However, did you know that there is an operating system similar to macOS but it is a Linux distribution, and the theme and appearance are mainly from macOS? If you didn’t know, well, now you know. Because pearOS is the Linux distro that has macOS features (sort of). And in this article, I will guide you on how to install PearOS on PC inside the virtual machine.
Install PearOS on PC
It is a new Linux distro made under ubuntu but similar to macOS. At the moment I can watch PearOS Catalina, PearOS ThiccSur and finally PearOS Monterey on their official website. For this article, I will be using VirtualBox, and then inside, I will install PearOS Monterey.
level 1. Since PearOS Monterey is an open source operating system, I will also be using open source virtualization software. It’s called VirtualBox, so the first step is to download both and you can get them from the links below.
The second step. The moment you download the required software, you will need to install VirtualBox on your computer. Then you need to create a new virtual machine specifically for PearOS, you can also leave the name Ubuntu. Or you can follow the steps below.
- Open VirtualBox and click on the new button on the home page.
- With the VirtualBox Virtual Machine Wizard open, click Expert Mode.
The second step. In this step, you need to provide a name for the virtual machine and then make sure that the OS type should be Linux with the other 64-bit Linux OS. For reference, you can follow the screenshot below.
Step 3. You need to enter how much storage you need for PearOS Monterey. I’d go with 100GB of storage for testing purposes, but 20GB would be fine.
Step 4. We need to attach PearOS Monterey to the virtual machine from Settings. Go to Settings > Storage and add the ISO image to the virtual machine.
Step number 5. This is the step where we will begin to install PearOS Monterey on VirtualBox on a Windows machine. So, click on the start button on the home page.
Step #6. When you boot the virtual machine, wait for a while for the operating system to boot directly on the virtual machine. Double-click PearOS Monterey to start the PearOS Monetary installer.
- Choose a language and click Next.
- Select your location and continue.
- Choose a keyboard and click Next.
- Click Erase Disk to erase everything and move on to the next step.
- Enter your personal information and enter your password.
- Now wait until all the files are copied to the virtual machine.
- Once the installation is complete, restart the process and make sure that PearOS Monterey ISO is removed.
If you’ve never used macOS, you probably can’t install it on a virtual machine or on a computer. This is a good opportunity, at least try to see what the interface settings in macOS look like. PearOS is an open source operating system, install it on a computer or virtual machine, the end point is that you do not have to pay a single coin. These are the steps how to install PearOS on PC using VirtualBox in Windows 11, hope it helps.
