The blues take the water in Cologne

To enter the Mannschaft race at home in Cologne, Dirk Nowitzki was honored at the start of the match to start the evening in a very good way, and this match is already decisive for the French team. After Slovenia’s victory over Lithuania, the Blues had the opportunity to strike from the start against the host nation.

But, thanks to the strength of its recent victory over Slovenia, Germany knew exactly how to master France to win clearly (76-63). A complicated start for the euro for Olympic vice-champions…

Five new more defensive

The blues begins with a new five, made up of Andrew Bessie, Eli Okubo Evan Fournier, Guerschon Yabusele and Rudy Gobert. The hosts set the tone defensively, preventing Germany from scoring their first point for about four minutes, and that’s after throws through Schroeder.

Both teams are clearly nervous and therefore defenses take precedence over the start of the match. Clumsy at 5/14 in first-quarter shots, and guilty of 6 stray bullets, the basketball blues are swaying and logically behind against a more established Germany, after a few minutes of adjustments at the start (17-13).

cross owners

If Guerschon included Yabusele inside, with 10 points in the first half, and Théo Malédon’s entry was more or less positive, France would not be able to pick up the score. Denis Schroeder can be followed closely, and by three different Frenchmen, he manages to find the error. He, Nils Jaffe and Johannes Thiemann are three teams in seven units and Germany is well and truly in the lead.

Too lax with 5 offensive rebounds left for the Germans, Vincent Colette’s side couldn’t serve their interior either to give the rotation to a futile team game, with only 4 passes for 11 missing balls in the break. And 7/12 in throws doesn’t help the cause, when the gap is -7 in the first inning (38-31). Without counting the Guerschon Yabusele, owners accumulate 6 points …

18-3 that sink the blues

However, it started well with Guerschon Yabusele who confirmed his impressive form. Real Madrid’s strong winger is all over the place, against and behind the arc to put France at +1 on 7-1 once they come back from the locker room. But this powerful moment will quickly collapse.

Like a stray ball from Malédon firing Maodo Lo in a dribble before sending Schröder on a layup, it’s clear that Germany takes the upper hand with 10-1 which turns into 18-3! Maodo Lo gave his show and several times the song in the French defense. And what about Thiemann who makes points without seeming to be the force.

The blues still do not attack

With box-starved play and Yvan Fournier at 2/10 of shots, France scored just a poor 10 points in the third quarter and found themselves dropping to 14 before the final quarter (57-43). Vincent Colette sends his twin towers to try to close the distance. Poirier managed to slip off and impose himself on the offensive rebound, but the Blues’ defense remains very weak.

Lo is untenable and Germany has 4 players between 11 and 14 points with Schroeder, Jiffy, Tiemann and Lo. Better organized and in place, with only 9 stray balls, Gordon Herbert’s pick kept running the entire time, with Theis putting the last nail in the 3-pointer tricolor coffin 2 minutes into the finish.

The Blues managed to win in the last quarter (20-19), but they, very harshly, are falling logically since the start of this Euro (76-63). A harsh but well deserved defeat with a distinct lack of defensive solidity and the already disturbing offensive match we witnessed in the preparations…
