Like every year, Activision puts out the package for two months from the start of the school year. On the list is the arrival of the long-awaited Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and its companion Warzone 2.0. We will explain everything to you.
[Mis à jour le 6 septembre 2022 à 15h57] Back to school now for fans of shooting games. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will debut on our PCs and consoles with the busy month of September in beta weekends. The new design from Infinity Ward and Activision aims to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, Modern Warfare (2019) and bring a breath of fresh air to a genre that has been utterly quiet for a few years. Notably, it will bring with it a new and competitive game mode, DMZ, and a sequel to the very popular Battle Royale Warzone. In addition to the upcoming license access in Xbox Game Pass, there are a lot of new features to analyze. We do it together in this article.
If you’ve been wanting to play Call of Duty early enough, there’s good news, Infinity Ward and Activision have planned nearly nine days of the game’s beta. A demo version with limited access, and different depending on your console, giving us a rather complicated table that you can discover below. Additionally, know that it will be possible for some players to take advantage of these early access betas, and we explain how to do so in our article just below the dates:
- September 16 and 17: Early access to the demo game
- From 18 to 20 September: Open beta for PlayStation players
Xbox, PlayStation and PC:
- September 22 and 23: Early access to the demo game
- From September 24 to 26: Open beta for all players
It’s a little bomb dropped by Phil Spencer on the first day of September. The Xbox Chairman and CEO has confirmed some doubts about the future of Activision-Blizzard games after Microsoft’s acquisition of the studio. In a blog post, Spencer claimed that the studio’s biggest licenses will eventually join Xbox Game Pass. So no, we are not talking about it right away, this information should not relate to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but the future of this gigantic association between one of the largest publishers in the world, and Microsoft, which no longer needs to be shown.
However, this ad has enough to cool Playstation gamers, who may be concerned about the availability of Activision and Blizzard titles on their consoles. But Phil Spencer quickly dismissed these concerns, saying that versions of the game will actually happen on Xbox Game Pass, but also and at the same time on Playstation consoles. Something to reassure the avid square triangle and cross avid, who can always enjoy their favorite licenses on their consoles.
And it seems that Xbox and Phil Spencer’s decision makes perfect sense. Allowing Xbox Game Pass subscribers to take advantage of the largest licenses in video game history could do a lot for Microsoft’s game subscription service. It’s still hard to fathom the success of this relatively recent formula, but we do know that about 30 million gamers take advantage of the Xbox Game Pass services. And that number could increase exponentially with the arrival of Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Diablo in its catalog.
But ahead of the beta dates, which are fast approaching, Activision and Infinity Ward have prepared a major event dedicated to the future of the franchise. The Next call of duty will be held on September 15 Next up (time still not set) and it will be streamed live on Call of Duty Twitch and Youtube channels. This conference aims to present to the public the intentions of Activision and Infinity Ward (the developer of MW2) regarding the future of licensing. More specifically, this event will detail the program for the game’s early seasons, as well as some information on DMZ and Warzone 2, the two large-scale competitive game modes in Modern Warfare 2. If you want to learn more about Call of Duty Next or Warzone 2.0, don’t. Feel free to refer to our articles below:
Pre-order Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 today to enjoy the many benefits when the game is released. This year, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be offered in two editions, the Standard Edition which includes the game and access. To the open beta version (a few days ago on Playstation consoles), the Vault version that contains all the benefits of the standard version, plus the battle pass from the first season of the game, 50 levels, cosmetics and operators. You can find the Vault Edition for €99.99 on the official Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 website.
We’re currently in a transition period between two console generations, and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 intends to incorporate that fact into its offering. This is why you will be able to find different versions of the game, some of which are multi-generational packs. Thus, these games are compatible with both console generations, just like the offer above for Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles. You’ll find cross-generational bundles at €79.99, the same price as PS5 and Xbox Series games.
If we take a closer look at these images, it is difficult not to remember the intense and revolutionary campaign of Call of Duty Modern Warfare (2019). Military assault on the high seas is impressive, although the game has been sticking with its graphics engine for three years. There are some innovations, particularly with regard to the physics of objects on water, but these images rather assure us of a strong call of duty rather than a revolutionary one. We will also, of course, celebrate the return of Captain Price and his colleagues in this powerful campaign focused on the challenges of the modern world.
Let’s start these few lines by emphasizing that what is in question here is still only at the rumor stage and that nothing has been officially announced yet by Infinity Ward or Activision. Although Tom Henderson has very knowledgeable sources and has seen his conclusions often confirmed, he is still a (respected) journalist rather than Activision Blizzard’s community manager. In his article for Tryhard, the Briton begins by denying rumors that the DMZ mode will be a free-to-play version on the fringes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, like Warzone. In fact, sources close to Infinity Ward have confirmed that a DMZ mode will be launched at the same time as the game, and integrated into its multiplayer experiences. So you will have to purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to play it.
As for the nature of the gameplay in DMZ, some rumors have quickly compared it to hardcore shooter games based on extraction, similar to Escape from Tarkov. Once again, Henderson dismissed these rumors by saying that the game, yes, will be similar to the popular Russian tactical FPS in its mission/extraction premise, but it is likely that the full-featured DMZ will not appear like its Eastern European counterpart. . It will actually be more like a “multiplayer mode” and not a standalone Warzone-like experience. Choosing Infinity Ward favors building the DMZ experience over time and with players. An understandable decision, given the failure of Battlefield 2042’s Danger Zone mode (although the HZ mode failure was more due to the lack of a viable reward system, and the content overall is more than the average Battlefield 2042).
Therefore, the American studio Infinity Ward is responsible for the development of this upcoming release. Quite reassuring news when you consider his lineage in terms of Call of Duty games. We owe him very popular episodes such as Modern Warfare (2007) and Modern Warfare 2 (2009), but also Modern Warfare (2019) and soon Modern Warfare 2 (2022-2023). Evidence of the undeniable ability to provide excellent FPS and failure to find the original names for them. Modern Warfare 2 will of course be an opportunity to find the most famous operators of the first part, Captain Price, Ghost and tutti quanti, which we can of course see in the new Battle Royale mode, Warzone 2. Moreover, Warzone 2 which is in the center of attention at the moment since the transfer of Insider and journalist Tom Henderson first sketches for the next Battle Royale map.

Modern Warfare 2 finally has an official release date! Fixed for October 28th. Once again, the game will be released on both generations of consoles and on PC. So it will be on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series. Good news for all those who have not yet had the opportunity to purchase one of the rare next-generation consoles on the shelves, and there is less good news for the game’s technical progress. These may be quite limited, slowed down by an older console generation and with lower capabilities compared to their next-generation counterparts. A justified choice for Activision, which cannot put aside the massive mass of PS4 and Xbox One players.
