What is the Overwatch 2 release date? On what modes?

Expectation has been high since it was announced in 2018 and closed for beta at the end of June. Finally, we will be able to have fun in this FPS game since the game will be released early next month. More precisely, on October 4, on a wide range of media: PC, Xbox One & Series, PS4, PS5 and Switch.

What characters will be in Overwatch 2? Will there be the same characters as in the first game?

Two new characters have been announced: Sojourn, the Canadian DPS champion, who is already known to players since she was present at the PVE event from the archives: Storm Rising, and Junker Queen (“Junker Queen” in VO), an Australian who will be an aggressive tank.

According to a rumor, by the calculation of Sojourn and Queen of Junkers, there should be 4 new heroes in total. Since we have a new DPS and a new tank, we just have to wait for a new support character. At the moment, no information has been disclosed about it. We will then be satisfied with the two officially announced characters.

Regarding the old characters, Tracer, D.Va, Hanzo… Don’t worry, all of your favorite characters from the first authorship will already be in Overwatch 2. On the other hand, they won’t be completely identical to what they were during the previous game, either in Their new clothing style or the way they play. Some will almost not change while others will have entirely new abilities and even new roles, such as Orisa who sees many of her abilities revisited as well as the hero Doomfist who will become a tank.

What will be the gameplay in Overwatch 2?

Unsurprisingly, we will find the usual PvP formula, like the previous opus. However, say goodbye to your 6th teammate because the game will not be 6v6 but 5v5. You should expect a team type with 2 DPS, 2 support and only 1 tank which will be the central element of your team. This option to reduce the number of players during games was made to highlight each team member’s impact on the game. Although this information has been discussed a lot, we just have to test this new configuration to form our own impression.

New multiplayer game modes should appear, but for now we only know one: push, where teams have to stay near a bot standing in the middle of the map. The goal is to get the robot to move in one direction for each team: one will have to move it forward while the other will ensure that it moves back. This will be the fastest mode in the game and there should be no links at the end of the games.

The ping system will be set up to help players communicate with each other, which is very useful for players who do not want or cannot express themselves verbally. Blizzard seems to be hoping this tool will reduce the game’s toxicity.

6 new maps have been announced: Midtown, in New York, Circuit Royal, in Monaco, Rio, in Brazil, Toronto, Canada, Colosseo, Rome, and a map in Portugal. In beta, Toronto and Colosseo are maps with the new payment mode. In addition to these new maps, Blizzard is adding a dynamic system where the weather and day/night cycle will be present.

What will the Overwatch 2 story be like?

The game’s story basically remains the same but the new PVE mode will bring more elements to the theme. PVE has been confirmed but won’t be introduced to players until 2023. It will be the direct door to the game’s lore because it has been announced that the character’s history is deepened there. At the moment, we don’t know if these PVE games will pay or not.

We got used to the Overwatch story through the Transmedia system in the first match. In other words, to a story that was evolving and shaped by videos, comics, and other media that allowed us to see our heroes in a different light via non-game mediums. We can then ask ourselves whether the PVE mode will take the entire place of game science or whether transmedia will continue and take on new forms.
